Day 32 & 33 – My head has exploded!

Thanks for coming back to see what is going on in my little world! You may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

my head exploded Well, last week was spent nursing myself and hubby back to health as we got over some sort of stomach bug.  It’s bad enough that I got it, but I can deal with sick…I just take care of myself and then go on.  Have some good homemade chicken soup, drink lots of fluids, etc..  However, when hubby is sick, the entire world stands still.  I am sure some of you can relate to what I am saying here.  The point is, I didn’t get much of anything at all done because I had put on my “nurse” hat and perform care taking duties for a bit.

On Friday I had a little talk with him.  The conversation went something like this…

Me:  I am having a problem with getting things completed.

Him:  Why is that?

Me:  Well, remember when I went to work each day and came home each day at a certain time and we had a schedule?  Remember how I had break times and lunch break?  I need to do that while working from home too.

Him:  So, why don’t you do that?

Me:  When I worked away from home, key word being “away”, you weren’t around while I worked.  Yes, I had other people around me, but we were all working on something so we pretty much focused on our job at hand.  We didn’t stop to watch television or have coffee breaks at the restaurant or just talk about stuff that didn’t pertain to work.

Him:  So, what are you saying?  It’s my fault?

Me:  (smooth the feelings here)  No, honey, I am not saying it is your fault…I am saying it is my fault that I am not focusing on my work but things are different from the way they were before.  When I am working on the computer and you start talking to me about games on Facebook, that changes my attention.  When you want me to join you for a break at the restaurant I feel I must to make you happy.  So, what I need for you to do is help me to remain focused.  I need you to help me treat this as a regular job and just not talk to me when I am quiet and focused.  You know I am like the dog on the movie “UP” with my attention span moving into another tangent sometimes.

Him:  So, let me get this right…you want me to just sit here and not talk to you unless you talk to me?

Me:  If I was still working, would you be calling me every 5 minutes asking me where something was or asking me to join you for coffee?

Him:  Well, no.

Me:  Do you see where I am going with this?  It has nothing to do with you doing anything wrong but rather working with me so I can train myself discipline on how to work for myself.

Him:  Yeah, actually, I think I do understand what you are saying.  So, what will your work schedule be?

Anyway, we talked it all out and I now have a very cooperative hubby willing to leave me alone to actually work!

I have been really excited to begin working on my new doll.  With the new Alice in Wonderland movie out, I made the decision is to make a Mad Hatter doll.  I just love that tale and his character!  For some reason the eyes I ordered weren’t shipped until yesterday and I ordered them 1 1/2 weeks ago, so I went ahead and got another pair and they arrived today so I began sculpting the doll.

Now I am no expert at doll making so I have read tons of instructions and copied a lot of reference photos to go by, however, I guess I either didn’t read the instructions correctly or just missed it entirely.  The photo taken above is of the armature I was building for the doll base and as you can see, there is an exploded head and a chunk of white crap next to it.  The white crap is the styrofoam I used which obviously didn’t work.  I purchased the balls from Wal-Mart thinking that was the type needed in the instructions I read.  As I go back and look at the instructions again, I read that is not the type of styrofoam they are talking about.  They are talking about the heavier and much denser type.  So, after smoking up the house and ending up with a doll base that looks like an alien, I have learned a very valuable lesson!  :)

wooden plaquesThe other project really doesn’t look as good in the picture here as it does in person.  The effect I was going for was achieved but when I look at it in this photo, it looks really dull and lacking.  I was going to post them in my Etsy store but I feel like they need more zip and zing added to them.  For right now they are hanging on my wall and I guess when I look at them long enough it will hit me what I need to do to make them look more vibrant and alive.

Well, that is what I have been up to for the past week.  I hope yours has gone well!  Time for me to scoop the brains off the cookie sheet and start surgery to see if I can salvage anything of the doll base.
