Day 10 - Complete

Thanks for coming back to see what is going on in my little world! You may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

my work area withO.K., so I know this isn’t an art project, but it was very necessary to get this project finished so that I could continue in my finishing my goals.

In one of the posts that got lost in my transition, I had talked about the depressing state of my office.  I know it isn’t anything fancy or anything, but I am so very proud of how it looks now.  If a person could imagine 4 years of paperwork, bills, receipts, magazines, etc. lying around in piles and boxes all over this entire room, they would understand how difficult it would be to do any actual work in the space.

I spent a few days last week boxing up all the small items in there which included pens, pencils, tools, etc. just to clear things out so I could move some more furniture in there.  My husband was using a smaller desk and wanted more space to work on, so when the business where I was working closed down, they sold a bunch of office furniture.  I purchased a large wooden desk with lots of drawer space and some large filing cabinets at a discount.  That furniture had been dumped into our entry way and waited for me to tackle this room.  Last week I finally got all the furniture arranged in there.

Today, I got out of bed, got ready for work, and began the process of organizing, filing, and putting things conveniently located for us.  Four years worth of paperwork is now in a folder in the file cabinet.  The books are neatly arranged in a bookshelf.  The closet is neat and organized with shelves containing supplies and hidden with a curtain.  filing cabinets and bookshelf

I still have to label the file cabinet drawers so anyone can, at a glance, see what is in each drawer, but, oh man, how nice it is now!

I can now find any book I am interested in finding and they are organized according to their purpose.  I have DIY books galore along with computer repair, website design, computer graphic books on a shelf all their own now.

My husband is a firefighter/emt and works at the 911 center here so he also has a lot of books that he needs to have access to, so now they are all on their own shelf.

Then, of course, there are the books collected through the years that we each have found an interest in.  They also have a dedicated shelf.

It is so nice because I also now have an actual tray unit to put important things in.  Right now, it is on top of the filing cabinets but I think it might have to be moved somewhere lower because those cabinets are almost as tall as me and I am 5′ 7″!

hubby's desk areaThis is George’s (my husband) desk and file cabinet (my old desk), and the  shelf you see to the left of the file cabinet is our old entertainment center I moved in there to hold our small stereo.  We like to listen to music when we are in the office together a lot of times and we really didn’t have anywhere else to put the center other than in there, so it seemed to be the perfect solution.

I still have tons of certificates to hang, but at least I have a start on it.

Oh, and that is our baby, Gato who decided when she saw me pulling the tripod with the camera out it was her time to shine.  She likes to be right in the middle of any activity I am in so I have had a lot of help from her and our other adopted baby.

Well, I am tired, but a good kind of tired.  The kind you feel when you procrastinate tackling something you really dread doing but when you get it all finished you feel this pride because you can actually see what you did.  BTW, I know my little ticker says “Scrapbooking Ticker” but they don’t have one for art…maybe they will take a hint!

Day 9 - Complete

A possible new bannerWell, day 9 proved to be quite full of mishaps, experiments, changes, and frustration.  While I didn’t actually get anything completely finished enough to suit me and my picky ass, I at least have some sort of direction to follow.

This is a picture of me in my office with some of my “friends” I have created.  I thought it would be sort of unique to have something like this as my banner on my home page and to be used in my online stores as well.

I read that when you begin an online business you should be consistent with your ad and make sure it describes visually what you do.  So, I had the idea to do this and see how it turns out.

I can see it in my mind…sort of.  Sometimes it is just so tough to create with an end in sight but I am working on it.

I am really proud of myself for following through with my goal, even though I am tardy on posting the results.  Hey, at least I am working on it!  In between all this, I have been helping my friend do a little graphic work here and there and working with her to change coding on her site too.  I just love the new Windows messenger!  The last time I used it I really didn’t like it very much, but now, it is cool.

O.K., onto the next project posting!

Day 8 - Complete

Cartoon LadyThe day almost got away from me with all my projects going on, but I sat down with the old sketchbook, pencil, eraser, and Prismacolor pencils and did this one.  Not sure why I drew this, it just sort of popped out.   Just imagine Julia Child making a dish and saying “just pop it in the oven”, lol.  Sorry, that just struck me as funny.

I think I am truly pathetic.  I got up this morning around 7 or so and am still in my sweats and t-shirt…haven’t had a shower or even combed my hair!  I at least brushed my teeth though.

I have had another productive day and even made the time to go and take the clothes off the treadmill and use it.  Walked 4/10ths of a mile at 2.9 mph and burned around 30 calories.  When I worked in the office away from home, the biggest excitement we had was when we had “snack day”.  Everyone would bring in the most wonderful tasting food and it was like an all day grazing for cows in a field.  Needless to say, after working there for 5 years, I had gained 65 lbs.  So, one of my goals is to lose that weight so walking on the treadmill for the little I did is a really big deal for me as I had become sedentary.  Now, I stay up later and still get up fairly early and have waaaay more energy than before, so, as Miss Martha says “that’s a good thing”.

As I was huffing and puffing along my long walk, I started to smell something that smelled like oil burning.  I continued my walking figuring it was just the treadmill burning off the dust bunnies that had accumulated.  Figured what the hell, I am married to a firefighter, lol.

The rest of the house is sort of suffering right now and the office is still filled with piles of paperwork needing to find a home, but at least my mental state is positive and good right now, so I know it’s only a matter of time till I get it completed.

One thing I discovered when my husband came home from a class he had to take was that I am a person who “thinks to speak” most of the time and he is one who “speaks to think”.  We are like total opposites in that aspect – most of the time.  I like to study things and get it all completed in my mind first, then I do the actual work and it just flies very quickly.  He talks about it and then begins doing it without any type of planning or organization – drives me freaking nuts!  Funny thing is though, he usually ends up doing a great job anyway and that really drives me nuts, lol.  I take all this time planning things to make sure it all works out just right and it keeps me uptight and babbling like a crazy woman and he just saunters along doing his thing all relaxed and happy…geesh!  What is wrong with people like that anyway?  LOL

So, the plan tomorrow is to work on a new banner to use in new Cafepress and Etsy store.  I thought about it today but never really came up with anything.  Maybe it will just be one of those deals I have to think about more before I actually do it.  Then again, I have a painting staring at me begging to be worked on…we’ll see what tomorrow brings.  Good night all!

Day 6 & 7 - Complete

Well, I have had a really, really busy week and haven’t found the time to stop and get my hands covered with chalk, paint, glue, or any type of artist’s crap, however, I have gotten my website changed over, new banner designed, some graphic work done for a friend, and tons of research completed for future use. Being as how I did do some art on the computer for this website as well as a friends, I think that qualifies me to have completed 2 days of goals which means I am completely caught up to date now! Let’s see, I set the goal to begin on January 20, 2010 and today is January 27, so, yep, that’s up to date.

My to do list is slowly but surely shrinking little by little. It seems so strange to not have to use an alarm clock to get out of bed or to watch the clock because of a work schedule. We have a winter storm watch starting tonight with freezing rain and possible snow accumulations forecast till Friday and it feels really odd to not have to go out and drive through any of it to go to work away from home. It just occurred to me – I am now doing exactly what I have wanted to do for many, many years!

There was something on an Oprah show a while back about envisioning yourself doing or getting something and creating like a whiteboard or bulletin board with things written on it or pictures. It is supposed to keep your goals visually in front of you at all times so that it isn’t forgotten and as long as it isn’t forgotten, it comes to pass. I believe this to be true. Then again, I also believe in this

Henry Ford – If you think you can do it, or you think you can’t do it, You are right.

I think the mind is the most powerful thing in the world. It can control so much! So, I work on my mind and my thoughts each day to check myself and make sure I keep a positive outlook about life as it is right now. Sometimes it isn’t real easy as feelings of fear of what the future holds, anger about my workplace closing, and an plethora of negativity sometimes washes over me about my own talent (or lack of) takes its toll. At least I am usually aware of what is happening though and it is my belief that once it is recognized, it is much easier to deal with.

Well, that’s about it for my musings today. See ya tomorrow!

Day 5 - Complete

Lady in RedFor some reason I am fascinated with creating characters doing things and trying to show facial expressions signifying what it is they are doing.  This lady is leaning against something (I haven’t decided what yet) so maybe this project really isn’t as complete as I think.  I just feel that she might be used in a later project for something else.

As do most of my characters, she began as a drawing on my drawing pad and then colored with Prismacolor pencils. To me, they are the best ones around! I may put her on the computer and tweak some things out and then interject her into another project so look for her to show up once again.
